Things I Hate about Religion – Religion as a Career – Part 6

This sort of goes along with the religion as a hobby, but some people take it a step further and are certain that they are called by God to be a minister, or a missionary, etc. Now, I’m not saying that they are or aren’t being called by God. But in many cases these are the same people who have religion as a hobby. And again, we wind up with a lot of those believing they must be more holy than everyone else because of their desire to be more religious and to pursue a career in religion. Well, the truth of the matter is, we can’t all be ministers. If we were, then there would be 6 billion little churches on the planet and every Sunday we’d all go to our own little church and preach to the air and the walls because nobody else would be there. In the same way we can’t all be dentists, and we can’t all be computer programmers. Society doesn’t operate that way, nor was it meant to. So that is great if you want to pursue a career in the church, but don’t feel like you are better or more holy than anyone else for doing so.
