But you bring up some interesting points. The only way it would work is if you were like the "star baby" or something similar to the book "2001", where one of the astronauts gets his mind transferred to a body of energy and can travel at the speed of light. In this way, he's able to travel the universe and not be held captive by anything except presumably black holes, which light can't escape. Even still, unless you are growing and changing, boredom would set in. This is the theme of many vampire novels and films. The vampires are immortal, but they are unhappy because among other things, they are bored with their unending existence and lack of change. Thats really dark.
